Canadian Retirement Hot Spot – The Globe and Mail, January 2015
Readers of the Globe and Mail picked Port Stanley, Ontario as one of Canada’s six Retirement Hot Spots as reported by Christina Mushka, Retirement Property Editor for the Globe, in a story published on January 12, 2015.
Arguably the most prosperous generation North America has ever seen, baby boomers are changing the expectations of retirement, including where they live. The unrelenting upward pressure on home prices, especially in Canada’s largest urban centres, work in their favour.
In a follow-up story contributed to the Globe by Jennifer Lewington on February 3, 2015, one retiree who had recently relocated to Port Stanley from Toronto, said that she and her husband “got more square footage and a bigger lot” in Port Stanley, at a price about 1/3 of their home near Yonge & Lawrence in Toronto.
Port Stanley, a popular summer destination that was an entertainment hot spot since the 1950’s, now appeals to some who are ready for small-town living, with access to the water and beaches and a short drive to hospitals and other medical services.
It’s a peaceful and laid-back lifestyle that Port Stanley can provide in abundance!
